Dr. Pamela Cain works with our periodontist and surgical partner to offer patients a full range of periodontal services. Dr. Robert Cain is one of few Hardin Valley dentists who is trained and certified in the Pinhole Surgical Technique, a revolutionary method of changing the shape of the gum line to improve both aesthetics and oral health. Often called the Lunchtime Gum Lift, this restorative dental procedure is ideal for those with receding gums as the result of infection, trauma or genetics.
Developed by Dr. John Chao, the Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™ technique can deliver results comparable to those achieved with oral surgery in a single visit with less discomfort, side effects or down time. The use of collagen, placed beneath the surface tissue, will support both healing and the stability of a lasting result.
Pinhole Gum Procedure: What to Expect
The entire procedure takes approximately 1-2 hours and is completed in the comfort of our dental office in Knoxville, TN. Once the area to be treated is numbed with a local anesthetic, Dr. Cain will begin by making tiny incisions in the gums. A tiny instrument is inserted through the openings and the technique will gently reposition the gum tissue, pulling it down and creating a healthier, more aesthetically pleasing gum line.
Once the new gum line is established, Dr. Cain will insert tiny collagen sticks to support and stimulate natural collagen production for the most natural and sustainable result. Once complete, patients can leave the office with a new look, healthier gums and minimal discomfort. With no need for cutting, suturing or the use of anesthesia, the Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™ offers a noninvasive treatment option for addressing gum recession, exposed tooth roots or cosmetic concerns.
Why Treat Receding Gums?
Gum recession can often lead to more complex dental concerns, especially if related to advanced periodontal disease. When the gum line allows the tooth roots to be exposed, it can increase sensitivity and the risk of tooth decay or even loss. Dr. Cain works with patients to ensure that all aspects of their oral health are optimal, providing the best possible function and pleasing aesthetics for a confident smile. Treating gum recession is an important part of maintaining long term dental health.
