There have been many important technological advances in dentistry – one of the most exciting is the innovation of T-Scan®, a digital bite analysis device. Dr. Pamela Cain is excited to be among the few dentists in the Knoxville area to offer this important tool which helps to measure the force and timing of a person’s bite to determine where there may be issues.
Although this technology has been available for over 35 years, Dr. Cain has dedicated many hours to training focused on the diagnostic use of the T-Scan. This enables her to provide a more thorough comprehensive, orthopedic approach to the entire occlusal system. This takes into account the function of the muscles and jaw joints affecting the bite so that your treatment will stabilize your dental health, providing a comfortable bite while relieving painful symptoms such as headaches and jaw pain. This technology helps Dr. Cain asses TMJ disorders, and ease the TMJ therapy process.
Conventional methods for evaluating a patient’s bite require the use of articulating paper which can only show the end results of occlusal contact. Unable to record which contacts hit first or measure their relative strength, these methods can not produce a comprehensive assessment.
The T-Scan uses sophisticated sensors and software to take much of the guess work out of these traditional analysis methods and in the hands of a well trained and experienced dentist can provide the foundation for a successful treatment plan.
DTR: Advanced, Effective Treatment for Headaches
Dr. Cain is a leading Hardin Valley area dentist for advanced diagnosis and treatment of headaches and temporal pain. She has completed many hours of advanced training at the Center for Neural Occlusion and recently became a Level II Disclusion Time Reduction (DTR) dentist. For patients, this means they have access to diagnosis and treatment that is based on scientific measurement of the factors affecting their bite and the neuromuscular structure of the head and neck.
“I believe in the rule of WIDIOM, which means, Would I Do It On Me, DTR has brought back a freedom from pain and discomfort that I would like to share with anyone that is going through the same experience.” Dr. Pamela Cain
Using DTR analytics, Dr. Cain is able to identify and treat the underlying cause of your temporal pain or recurring headaches and associated symptoms which can include gum recession, tooth sensitivity and damage. A personalized plan of treatment is designed to restore dental health, provide pain relief and balance the bite. Dr. Cain is both a patient and practitioner of the DTR method. She has been treated for the same type of pain and tension that her patients experience, offering first hand advice and testimonial on the benefits of treatment.
Bite Analysis: How It Works
Using a small, hand-held device, Dr. Cain can quickly and accurately determine how well balance your bite is. You simply bite down on an ultra-thin sensor, which measures the time and force of your bite. The information is sent to the computer which analyzes and displays the data in minutes. From this 3-D analysis, Dr. Cain can determine what is and what is not working with your bite.
